PRO Statement — Timberline Fire Protection District Ballot Issue 7B

A YES vote on Ballot Issue 7B will provide Timberline Fire Protection District with reliable, long-term funding to strengthen emergency response, hire additional firefighters, maintain wildfire mitigation services, and prepare for the future needs of our mountain community.

Timberline serves a large, rural mountain district where distance, difficult terrain, severe weather, and wildfire risk can make emergency response especially challenging. When an emergency occurs, minutes matter.

One of the most important benefits of Ballot Issue 7B is the ability to hire additional full-time firefighters and expand 24/7 staffing to a second Timberline fire station. Having firefighters and emergency equipment positioned at a second staffed station can improve response capabilities throughout the District and provide additional personnel when multiple emergencies occur at the same time.

Over the last several years, Timberline Fire has invested significantly in capital improvements to strengthen the District’s infrastructure and prepare for future emergency service needs. These investments include the construction of additional apparatus bays and living quarters at Station 3, providing additional space for emergency vehicles and equipment, and living quarters for firefighting personnel. Ballot Issue 7B will help ensure the District has the staffing and operational resources necessary to fully utilize these investments and put these improved facilities to work serving the community.

Ballot Issue 7B will also allow Timberline Fire to maintain its wildfire mitigation services. Timberline will continue to provide free home wildfire assessments, helping residents identify wildfire risks around their homes and take steps to improve defensible space and preparedness. Reducing hazardous fuels and improving wildfire preparedness helps protect homes, neighborhoods, evacuation routes, infrastructure, and firefighters.

Timberline’s mitigation employees also provide an important additional emergency response resource. These employees are available to respond to incidents at a moment’s notice, providing additional personnel when needed and further strengthening the District’s response capabilities. This allows the community’s investment in mitigation personnel to serve a dual purpose: reducing wildfire risk before an emergency while providing additional response capacity when emergencies occur.

The additional funding will also help Timberline maintain responsible emergency reserves for major wildfires, extended incidents, equipment failures, and other unexpected emergencies. Maintaining adequate reserves helps ensure that the District can respond to unforeseen events while continuing to provide essential day-to-day emergency services. Funding will also support the District’s general operations and future capital needs.

Ballot Issue 7B proposes an additional 6.0-mill property tax levy, generating approximately $1.2 million in the first full fiscal year.

Based on Timberline Fire’s calculations, the additional cost is approximately $3.40 per month for every $100,000 of actual residential property value, as determined by the County Assessor. A residence with an actual value of $500,000, for example, would pay approximately $17 per month.

This investment will allow Timberline to build upon improvements already made while strengthening emergency response, wildfire preparedness, staffing, financial stability, and long-term readiness.

Vote YES on Timberline Fire Protection District Ballot Issue 7B.

More firefighters. Faster response. Safer community.
